ICOM at Mont Kiara International School
Music students of Mont Kiara International School (MKIS) were given an introduction to jazz improvisation by ICOM during a recent workshop. This workshop is part of a workshop series for schools recently launched by ICOM where high school students, specifically, those from the music club, are given the opportunity to get a taster of what is offered at ICOM as part of its programmes, a talk on career opportunities and a ‘jam’ session with ICOM students.
The workshop started off with ICOM students performing 3 songs, followed by a performance by MKIS students. The workshop then moved on to a discussion on jazz improvisation techniques by ICOM lecturer, Mr. Farid Yahya and ended with MKIS students performing ‘Just Friends’ with ICOM students, a jazz standard arranged by ICOM student, Loh Ui Li.
The music workshops will be an ongoing ICOM high school project, with the objective to share with high school music students the different areas of music education and career options available in the industry in an interactive and fun manner.
