qualified candidates to fill the following post.
Requirement
- Masters Degree in Music Performance or equivalent
- Must have experience playing both modern and classical genres
- Min 5 years teaching experience at tertiary level with evidence of leading a team of instrumental teachers
- Able to prepare students for high level performance both individually and in a group
- Able to produce concerts at professional level
- As an academic, documented evidence in developing curriculum, assessment, learning & teaching strategies in music performance.
- Strong Leadership and administrative skills
- Self driven and able to work with minimum supervision
Responsibility & Accountability
- Teach up to a maximum of 14 hours of performance classes including private instruction.
- Keep abreast of the performance and related development in similar institutions of higher learning as well as the performance standards and practices of the music industry and recommend for implementation at ICOM. (If recommendation is approved, the candidate may be given the responsibility to develop the programme).
- Plan, schedule, coordinate and supervise the instrumental / vocal auditions (entry and placement), proficiency examinations, in and out of campus student performances, faculty performances, and the Friday Performance seminar each term. This function, coordinated together with the Office of Course Leaders’, includes faculty allocation, approving faculty and students’ equipment requisition, stage set up and breakdown, repertoire selection, dress code, sound check, rehearsals and performance programmes.
- Coordinate the general operations of the Performance Department along the guidelines of the programmes of the college.
- Supervise academic staff’s assessment and marking of students’ performance skills in private instruction, instrumental labs, ensembles, performance seminars and senior recital.
- Recommend suitable performance related reference books, periodicals, audio and video materials for purchase as library holdings.
- Recommend any changes to existing curriculum and/or assessment criteria of performance related courses to the Dean of Academic Affairs or designate.
- Liaise with the office of Academic Affairs on the appointment of relevant faculty positions (full and/or part time) to teach related courses in performance. The Head of Performance will be involved in the interview process.
- Supervise faculty in their teaching, assessment and administration of all Performance courses through scheduled faculty department meetings each academic term.
- Provide appropriate academic counseling on performance studies to students enrolled in the college’s programme.
- Represent the Performance Department at external examination, Subject Board meetings, Quality Assurance Board meetings (both local and international bodies) as well as student/staff based course committee meetings with a view to defend, challenge, clarify and/or recommend changes to the existing Performance curriculum at ICOM.
Remuneration
We offer RM 60,000 (USD 18,000 equivalent) Per annum and Medical Benefit
