Review of Friday Performance Week 6

Brace yourselves, people, for Friday Performance is here to save the day! As students gather in ICOM’s Recital Hall, outsiders are also filling up some seats in the house this week. Friends and family members or even just strangers who have a love affair with music are all welcome to join us and enjoy the music the students of ICOM bring to the stage. Before I babble on about the performance, let me introduce our fine and intelligent judges: Mr. Rishabh Rajan and Dr. Sergio Camacho, both lecturers of ICOM.

Friday Performance this week was slightly more exciting than usual. Why? Because,  4 out of 5 performers this week  are new students and everyone’s eager to see what they have to show to us.

The one person who can come up with such a quirky and bubbly idea, such as a Broadway style performance, is none other than Lennise Ng!  She brought props on stage and  asked her fellow college-mates to act out in her musical broadway performance entitled, ‘Alfie’. The second performer of the evening, our handsome pianist Kevin Leong, not only played the ‘Blower’s Daughter’, on the piano, but he also sang it out with such emotions and feelings that it showed just how much he related himself to the  lyrics (but we’re guessing he’s just in love with a blower’s daughter)  Next in line, a small musician with an energetic song, Zainamb, our Sri Lankan Princess with her violin,  rocked the house down.

We all know that Christmas only comes in December, but Edwin Toh, a pianist with an amazing sense of touch on the piano, brought us an early Christmas when he presented his song called,’ Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence’. Last performer in the house, our famous and cheerful bass player, Feri Lau, took us on a journey of funk and jazz music.  We definitely enjoyed the walk with the bass, and also nodding our heads to the music.

Not only were the performers of the week  interesting,  the guest performers were equally good as well.  The Granadilla Band, consisting of 4 members, performed two songs (both Farai Gumbo’s original compositions) and the reaction from the crowd was unbelievable. Before the evening was  wrapped  up, one last guest performance  was a metal band performing  two head banging songs to wake up the audience.

Please feel free to drop by anytime you feel like joining us! Our Friday Performance starts at 4pm every Friday at Recital Hall of ICOM. Supportive friends and family members of the  house are always welcome to sit down and cheer for our college-mates. So be our guest and hope to see you soon! Cheerio!
