Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the minimum qualification to enrol into the ICOM music programmes?
    To qualify for entry into ICOM music programmes, (the Foundation Certificate In Music/Bachelor Of Music (Hons) In Professional Music and the Berklee Transfer Prrogramme) applicants should have passed SPM/O levels or its equivalent with 5 credits and obtained a grade 4 (both theory and practical) from a recognised external music examination board. Applicants who do not meet this criteria would be required to do a Pre-Foundation In Music course offered at ICOM prior to entry into the degree programmes.
    For students planning to enter either the Diploma In Business (Music Industry) or the Certificate In Audio Production require 3 and 2 credits respectively from SPM/O Levels or equivalent. Music certification is not required for these 2 courses.


  2. What are the prospects for a career in music?
    The music industry in the region is growing steadily every year and the need for qualified musicians is always in demand. From Arrangers, Engineers, Performers and Executives, the music industry is looking for graduates who have the formal training and creativity to contribute to the growth of the industry.

    Most of ICOM graduates receive employment offers from leading music companies during their final year of studies.

  3. Are courses offered at ICOM regconized by the government and/or the industry ?
    All courses offered at ICOM are approved and recognized by the Malaysian Government and fully endorsed by the music industry.

    ICOM is the only college in the Asia Pacific region to receive full articulation of courses with Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA.

  4. Does ICOM offer scholarship?
    At present, ICOM does not offer tuition scholarship. However, our students have numerous financial aid options through the MACP scholarship fund, the PTPTN student loan fund, EPF and other student loan schemes as offered by reputable financial institution.


  5. Can I pay my fees by instalment?
    Local students can pay the semester tuition fees in two or five instalments. Please talk to our counsellor for further information pertaining to the fee payment. International students are required to pay the semester tuition fees in full.


  6. Does ICOM provide accommodation?
    ICOM does not provide student accommodation, however, we assist students in getting a place to stay. Many of our outstation students stay at the Heritage Condominium which is about 10 minutes walk from the college. The rental ranges between RM300 to RM500 per month, depending on the room size and facilities available.
