"I could never do all these alone. I would like to thank God, my family, friends, colleagues, teachers, students and affiliates for the constant support. Everyday is a learning process and thank you for the continued lessons in life!" - Simon Lee
Simon Lee was born in Ipoh, and then raised in the areas of Kajang and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He was always inspired by music all his life thanks to his family's upbringing and support, which earnestly cultivated his diverse elements. At the age of 5, he started playing the Electric Organ and the Piano. Then, at the age of 10, he started playing the Classical Guitar and then at 12, the Violin. He grew up loving music more and more and started formally teaching in local music schools at the age of 17 and focused mainly on the keys (Piano / Organ / Keyboards - Synthesizers) in both teaching and performance realms.
At the age of 18, apart from his teaching endeavors, Simon worked in a marketing department at a renowned club as a Marketing Ambassador and also as a Sales Personnel in the few music stores he was teaching in while freelancing in some writing and production gigs for some major companies in Malaysia. Simon also performed actively as a soloist and an accompanist for some artists at various settings and locations. This wide range of careers was based on his helpful and wanting-to-learn drive.
In terms of his music education, Simon started off with formal lessons since he was 5 mainly with Classical performance. After completing high school, he made a major switch toward the contemporary realm – He studied at the International College of Music, Kuala Lumpur on the Berklee Transfer Program and had graduated in 2007 as a scholarship student with a Bachelors or Music Degree in Contemporary Writing and Production at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA, graduating with a Summa Cum Laude (1st Class Honors).
Simon contributes a lot toward the community wherever he goes. During his stay at Berklee, apart from focusing on his priorities and concentration, he proved to the Berklee community that he had a lot to offer and share and had founded a club along with his peers called Jams@Berklee which consists of over 1000+ Berklee students and Alumni as of today. Apart from that, he also co-founded another club called Asian Students@Berklee, was an active Student Ambassador (Which led on to him doing Interviews for Admissions@Berklee), was also an active studio musician & contractor in recording sessions for the Film Scoring Department and the Contemporary Writing & Production department, and the list goes on.
After his graduation, he stayed on in Boston for 2 more years mainly working on Business Development & Marketing for some local companies in Boston. Despite his tight schedule, he was still actively performing with local bands, providing music lessons and mentor sessions. He was also actively involved with projects and events such as developing, co-producing, marketing & performing for shows for the Video Game Orchestra in Boston.
These accomplishments led Simon on to bigger things in his life today, most importantly his recent move back to Malaysia to help serve the community!
Simon is currently based in the areas of Kuala Lumpur working toward his next goals with Education, Business and Community in music.
