Life after ICOM
I started my journey into music playing for a rock band in India. The band gave me the opportunity to perform music without any formal training. After a few years of playing in the band and winning the 'Great Indian Rock' festival, I decided to leave India and pursue my music education in Malaysia.
At ICOM I received my first formal music training, doing the Berklee Transfer Programme. It was my first time leaving the homeland and living away from home. I was both excited and scared at the same time. To my surprise, I fit in pretty well in Malaysia and did not really experience much of a culture shock. It was a great experience where I made a lot of friends and developed my core music knowledge. All the lecturers were excellent in their craft and opened my eyes and ears to an ocean of music that I never knew existed.
After two years in Malaysia, I left for the United States to study film scoring at Berklee College of Music. Even though film scoring was not a course that was available in Malaysia, I did learn a lot of the basics required to get involved in film music. It helped me so much that I managed to finish the program a whole semester earlier than normal.
After graduating, I moved to Los Angeles and did pretty much anything I could get my hands on. I worked for sound library developers, worked in a studio as an engineer, composed music for a few independant films, documentaries and also worked as a sound editor for short films.
After my brief stint in Los Angeles, I decided to move back to India and since then I have been working in an Apple Training Center, as a trainer for Logic Pro. I am also teaching students from KM Music Conservatory (the only one of its kind in India) which was started by the famous film music composer, A.R.Rahman.
Right now I am trying my hand at being a music producer as that is probably one of the few things I have not done yet. I am also working on two albums right now, which hopefully will be released by the end of this year.
